Hi,
I am very glad to see the Pokédex on this site with the Forms listed. Would it be possible to update the regional variants with the originating region as well? For example, there is Alolan Rattata marked with “Alola”, but the Kantonian form doesn’t say “Kanto”. I think recentish official media has started referring to the original forms by region.
I think that the gigantamax label is great! Would it be worth adding gigantamax factors for Pokémon like Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, who could have the gigantamax factor, but are not actually capable of changing form.
Also, could you add in “Alpha” Pokémon and male/female differences?
All of this would help people to build a living dex or living dexes.
Thanks!
Hey, thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate the suggestions, here are my thoughts on your points:
For regional labels, my philosophy so far has been to avoid updating standard species and form names to maintain consistency across generations, as adding these tags adds complexity to the database. However, I might add a visual indicator for the original region on the front end or include this in a future “full dex” view. I’ll need to look into the technical feasibility.
As for Gender Differences and Alpha Pokemon, I have data for gender differences and have been meaning to implement them. It’s just a matter of figuring out the best way to display them on the site. For Alphas, I suppose I just need to make a page for “all of these can be Alphas” and just combine the possible species from PLZA and PLA that can be Alpha.
The Gigantamax Factors is a bit trickier. Currently, the dex really only focuses on Pokemon that have different forms. The “factor” is a separate data flag (distinct from a form change) that allows Pokemon to Gigantamax if they have such a form. Figuring out how to add this to the database is a challenge, because I’m not sure what Pokemon have all had this set (would just need to compile it).
I think your suggestions also really go into how I want to create a “Living Dex Collector Sheet” that can have various “advanced modes.” This would allow users to sign in and track all of these specific details (and your suggestions are actually helping me flesh it all out a bit more in my head and notes!). While I have other priorities at the moment, this feature is definitely on the roadmap.
Thanks again for all of the great ideas! I really appreciate it!
